...went to church, stayed for the frugal lunch and the cake stall.
...saw the smoke from the Buncefield explosion.
...oh, and I looked for new jobs since my school is probably closing.

Good heavens, Matthew! This is awful! Why such a decision? (I think there was a hint in the news article you linked to, but I don't think I know enough Brit to understand.)
